.au Domain Name Transfers using GoDaddy

Updated 4 January 2021
Transferring Your Domain from your Current Domain Registrar to GoDaddy (.com.au, .net.au, .com or similar)

  • If you want to transfer your domain name from your current registrar (for example if they are too expensive or difficult to deal with), our guide below guides you through this easy process.
  • You can transfer it to our preferred domain registrar GoDaddy who are cheap and good to deal with.
  • To transfer, you will need to set up a free account with GoDaddy from which you can access their support for your transfer should any issues arise.   We cannot provide ongoing support during this process as it is external to us, however if you follow the guidance below you will be able to process the transfer successfully.  Godaddy can be contacted 24/7 on 02 8023 8592 or access their online support here.
Important Steps
  • Please note there is a fee attached to the transfer, which is currently $8.99. We believe that the ongoing savings of holding your own domain will be far more significant than this one-off fee.  This fee can be paid by credit, debit or bank card and PayPal.
  • Please send our team your login and password so that we can create the required DNS record changes and bring your website online following the succesful transfer of your domain.
Step 1:  Please "register" and create a new account with http://au.godaddy.com/ - you can follow the guidance below which illustrates the process.

Step 2:  Generate a series of unique IDs which will be sent to your email.

  • Login to GoDaddy  via https://au.godaddy.com with your new username and password.
  • Click here: https://au.godaddy.com/domains/domain-transfer.aspx?regionsite=au&marketID=en-AU
  • Enter your domain name eg www.mydomain.com.au and follow the guidance - the domain registrant will be sent a series of IDs which you will need in Step 3.

Step 3:  Enter the Transfer Codes into the Domain Manager and Finalisation

This step is where you authorize the transfer by entering the transfer IDs that you were sent by email (the transaction ID and security code) into the Domain Manager (see illustration below).  If your Transfer codes were not sent by email, you may need to contact your registrar directly to request the authorization code from your current registrar so you can enter it in the Domain Manager.

Steps to follow:
  • Log in to GoDaddy and click "Manage My Domains".  From here click "Transfers" and enter in the Transfer and Security codes.
  • Once completed, GoDaddy will notify you via email when the transfer completes and the domain name is active in your account with them.  AusRegistry processes your confirmation within 24 hours on Australian business days.
